What employers want
A national survey of what employers look for in entry-level workers revealed that specific skills are now far less important than the ability to learn and problem-solve on the job.
Of the seven desired traits, just ONE was academic.
The other SIX were related to emotional intelligence.

  Most valued:
  • Listening and oral communication
  • Adaptability and creative responses to setbacks and obstacles
  • Personal management, confidence, motivation to work toward goals
  • Group and interpersonal abilities, cooperativeness and teamwork
  • Organization, wanting to make a contribution, and leadership potential
